Help When You Need It Most
We provide financial assistance to Somerset County families and individuals facing an unexpected medical crisis.
Eligibility
You're facing a significant, unexpected medical crisis that's making it hard to cover monthly expenses
You live or work in Somerset County (exceptions considered case-by-case)
Open to families and individuals up to age 62
Invoices are required for all assistance — funds are paid directly to providers, never to applicants
Anyone can apply on behalf of someone in need, with that person's permission
Our Process
Submit Your Application
Fill out the online grant application. Community members can also apply on behalf of someone, with their permission.
Schedule an Interview
After receiving your application, Steps Together will reach out to schedule an interview to better understand your needs.
Committee Review
Applications and interview notes are reviewed by a committee during the first week of each month.
Receive Your Grant
If approved, funds are sent on the 15th of the month — paid directly to vendors or service providers, not to you personally.
Two Levels of Support
One-Time Grant
A single grant of up to $1,500 to help cover an urgent need. Apply through our short grant application — no extended financial documentation required.
Extended Support
For families with greater or ongoing needs, assistance can continue for up to 24 months. Requires annual financial documentation, including the first two pages of your prior-year tax return and a summary of non-reimbursed medical expenses. Support amounts vary based on financial need and fund availability.
